Detention & Retention Ponds
Our bread and butter
Almost every structure from a neighborhood to a master development has some kind of storm water facility. These ponds hold storm water after heavy rains to off set the impervious surface created by our buildings, streets, and other hard surfaces.
Learn how SCA can help you keep these area under wrap with your community and local issuing authority.
Why do I have to maintain them
While sometimes hard to pin point, every pond has an owner that is legally responsible for maintaining it's functions. In most cases, that is an HOA with the occasional individual homeowner. However, in some cases, they may be rightfully owned by the local issuing authority or LIA for short.
Local Issuing Authority
The Local issuing authority or LIA for short, is the local municipal authority that is in charge of your ponds. This could be the City or County. If you are unsure who's it is, you can typically access a map on your county's website to find out.
In most cases, you will get citations or warnings from these officials as a notice that your pond is out of compliance.
Citations/Warnings
Typically when you get a citation/warning, your pond is out compliance by quite a margin. Many times, if the pond has been left alone for a long time, forget, or just not budgeted for, there are problems that need to be fixed. These could be issues with the outlet control structure, inlets, outlets, or most commonly just over grown vegetation.
This doesn't mean that your organization will be fined or punished immeadiatly. In most cases, as long as you let them know your working on it, they will give you a short grace period to get things in order.
If you have received a citation or warning, and are not sure what to do, make sure to contact SCA for an inspection. Our trained professionals will receive the report, interpret the issue, and come up with a plan of action to get back into compliance.
